Albaconazole: Oral broad spectrum antifungal agent

Partner: Stiefel, a GSK company, UK

Albaconazole shows high potency against a broad range of pathogens including strains resistant to other antifungals as well as a good safety profile, suggesting a potential for becoming a best-in-class antifungal. Worldwide rights of the molecule have been out-licensed to GlaxoSmithKline (UK). They will develop the compound for a variety of dermatological indications and fungal infections. The compound is finalizing a Phase IIb clinical study.

Cimicoxib: Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for CNS indications

Partner: Affectis Pharmaceuticals, Germany

Affectis Pharmaceuticals has in-licensed the global rights of cimicoxib for all CNS indications. There is a growing support within the scientific community that inflammation is involved in the pathology of psychiatric disorders. Affectis is developing the compound for the treatment of depression and schizophrenia. Currently, Affectis is finalizing a Phase IIa clinical trial of this cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for the oral treatment of major depression.

ACTIVE® and IRIST® Stents

Partner: Iberhospitex, Spain

ACTIVE and IRIST stents are drug eluting coronary stents coated with a polymer containing the drugs triflusal and paclitaxel (ACTIVE®) or triflusal and simvastatin (IRIST®). Both are already on the market. Palau’s proprietary polymer provides very favorable mechanical and pharmacological properties. Triflusal is a known antiplatelet agent with additional anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties that was developed at Grupo Uriach, and that has been commercialized for over 20 years.

Cimicoxib: Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for veterinary use

Partner: Global veterinary company

Aside from its development in humans, cimicoxib has been out-licensed to an animal health company for  development for several veterinary indications. It is currently in Registration stage.
