Cimicoxib: Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for CNS indications
Partner: Affectis Pharmaceuticals, Germany
Affectis Pharmaceuticals has in-licensed the global rights of cimicoxib for all CNS indications. There is a growing support within the scientific community that inflammation is involved in the pathology of psychiatric disorders. Affectis is developing the compound for the treatment of depression and schizophrenia. Currently, Affectis is finalizing a Phase IIa clinical trial of this cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for the oral treatment of major depression.
Neogenius Pharma and Dendria
Partner: DraconisPharma
Neogenius Pharma and Dendria are two independent Drug Discovery programs focused on the identification of innovative molecules to treat inflammatory pain and neuroinflammatory diseases respectively. Both projects belong to the CENIT Programs, an initiative of the Spanish Government to promote public and private cooperation in R&D. Until September 2011, Palau led the discovery activities for these two programs, at which point Palau’s rights and obligations were transferred to DraconisPharma in exchange of future revenues.
ACTIVE® and IRIST® Stents
Partner: Iberhospitex, Spain
ACTIVE and IRIST stents are drug eluting coronary stents coated with a polymer containing the drugs triflusal and paclitaxel (ACTIVE®) or triflusal and simvastatin (IRIST®). Both are already on the market. Palau’s proprietary polymer provides very favorable mechanical and pharmacological properties. Triflusal is a known antiplatelet agent with additional anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties that was developed at Grupo Uriach, and that has been commercialized for over 20 years.
Cimalgex® (cimicoxib): Cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor for veterinary use
Partner: Vétoquinol Veterninary Pharmaceuticals
Aside from its development in humans, cimicoxib has been out-licensed to Vétoquinol Veterinary Pharmaceuticals, a global animal health company, for development in several veterinary indications, including the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with arthritis and surgery in dogs. The compound is on the market since June 2011.
